Chapter 01

Memphis.

I grew up in Memphis. Like a lot of kids from neighborhoods like mine, I learned early that opportunity wasn't something handed out — it was something you had to go find. The blueprint for what a "good career" even looked like was missing. Nobody around me was working in Fortune 500 boardrooms. There were no connections to senior leaders, no mentors who'd done it before.

What I had was a stubborn belief that the people writing the rules weren't smarter than me — they just had more access.

Chapter 02

Leaving home.

I left Memphis with very little money and a lot of determination. I didn't have a plan that would have looked impressive on paper. What I had was a willingness to outwork the room and a refusal to let where I started define where I'd end up.

Chapter 03

Degrees, while working full-time.

I earned an Associate of Science in Business Administration, then a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in Leadership & Management, then an MBA — all while working full-time. Every degree was a deliberate choice to widen my options. Every class was paid for by a job I was already doing.

I learned what most career advice misses: education is a tool, not a trophy. The point isn't the diploma. The point is what doors it lets you walk through next.

Chapter 04

A decade inside the Fortune 500.

I built my career across some of the most respected organizations in the country — Oracle, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Virta Health, and others. Healthcare, technology, HR, operations, strategy. The roles changed; the pattern didn't: do the work, learn the system, then change the system.

I saw firsthand how careers actually move forward inside big companies — what gets people promoted, what gets people passed over, what executives are really looking for, and what most candidates never learn until it's too late.

Chapter 05

Helping others.

Along the way I started helping friends, colleagues, and strangers. Resumes. Interview prep. Promotion conversations. Salary negotiations. People who were stuck — not because they weren't talented, but because nobody had ever shown them how the game was really played.

Promotions started landing. Salaries jumped by tens of thousands of dollars. Career pivots that had felt impossible suddenly became real. People went back to school. People started companies. People changed what was possible for their families.

The feedback was always the same: "I wish more people had access to this."

Chapter 06

Why Nura exists.

Career guidance and entrepreneurship support shouldn't be reserved for people with the right network or the budget for $25,000 consultants. The reason most people don't reach their potential isn't ability — it's access.
